I ate at Chef Louie's every Friday night as a child, and ofttimes during the week. My parents owned the (then Best Western) motel across the street from Louie's. So it was an easy walk for us. We generally sat at a booth on the side of the bar so my dad and Louie could talk about business while we kids watched the TV over the bar. Louis was a bit of a showman and a great host. The steaks were phenomenal, as good as any I've had at Quality Meats or Del Fresco's in Manhattan. Their fried onion rings and baked potatoes were always amazing. And there were shrimp and fish options for Friday if my grandmother joined us. Louie's was one of those high-quality, family-friendly American restaurants that has been eliminated by the profits-first, screw everything else attitude that began during the Reagan era and continues to wreck the American middle class in favor of big chains and corporations. I wish everyone, wherever they grew up in this great country, had the experience of a local spot like Chef Louie's that made them feel like family.

Closed January 2022...sad it was classy place. Needs to be updated in Yelp. Also Billboards are still up on I-90 almost a year later.

Our dinner here tonight was great. Kelly was a excellent server! Extensive wine menu. Reasonable prices. We shared the seafood fondue app and both had Filet Mignons for dinner. We both agreed the steak did not need the optional sauces we ordered. (Cognac Peppercorn or Bourbon sauce). Only negative-- I'd prefer more vegetable options for side items.

The best filet mignon I have had across all 50 states! Hidden in a small town in south dakota, Chef Louie's steakhouse is an amazing dining experience. The dinner roll butter is fantastic! Creme brûlée was made to perfection. Also the best service this side of the Mississippi! There is another steakhouse down a block and if you had to choose I would highly recommending this great restaurant!

Wife and I stopped in for dinner on a Saturday evening. I was a little worried about the way I was dressed, but the sign outside relieved that fear, basically come as you are. I can tell you, it's probably not what you'd expect for a steakhouse in South Dakota. It was nice. The service was first rate and the food was excellent. Prices were right in line with what I expected to pay. We got there about a half hour after opening and were the first ones in, followed by a group of pheasant hunters. Within 30 minutes, there was another group and several couples. Place fills up fast. We will definitely stop again when we're back in the area.

Chef Louie's Steak House is a flat out home run. Great appetizers, great wine list and great food. The service is impeccable and it has the feel of an old classic steak house. And don't forget to try the desserts....we loved the carrot cake.

Year 6??? Still good. I think I've only had one bad experience in 6 years. The bone-in Ribeye has gone up $7 since 6 years ago, but still pretty good. The garlic mash were good, though light on the garlic. The dirty martini was excellent. See you next year.

Classic Americana. The kind of restaurant worth visiting when traveling small town America. In Mitchell for work, so I thought I would treat myself to local Chef Louie's.. I sat in the classic American bar/lounge and enjoyed the liver and onions. A favorite of mine that I often order at a steakhouse if on the menu. I figure if they are serving top notch beef, the liver better be good as well. It was prepared perfectly and served with a very good rendition of Au Gratin potato's. Impressive wi e list, but the company meal allowance was only good for the house red. I

Unpretentious on the outside, very nice on the inside. As I approached the front door, a nicely dressed couple exited. I asked them if it was a dressy place, or could I dine in my casual attire. They assured me I would be fine. Abby S. was my pleasant server. She suggested the meal special for the day and I was very pleased with my steak. It was prepared as requested, the sweet potato was an excellent side. Although I dined alone, I was presented with two dinner rolls and their prepared butter. They were delicious. Besides the standard glass of water, I asked for hot tea to complement my meal. A wooden case was presented, with perhaps 8 varieties of various teas. I selected a green tea (there was no black tea to be found). Overall, I enjoyed my meal, the ambiance, and the excellent service provided. I asked that a discount coupon be applied and they happily reduced the bill by $3. When passing through this area next time, I will certainly give them my business.
